On May 27, 1984, Muhammad Ali carried the Olympic Torch through Louisville, Kentucky, captivating thousands of onlookers. Ali, the second runner in Kentucky, received cheers of “Hey, champ!” as he passed through downtown streets.
This wasn’t the first, or last, time Ali was involved with Olympic tradition.
He won the gold medal in the 1960 Olympics in Rome. In 1996, he lit the Olympic Flame in Atlanta, Georgia.
