3x NBA Champion Still Being Paid $2 Million Per Year By The Dallas Mavericks

The three-time NBA Champion finished the regular season with averages of 4.0 points and 2.7 rebounds per contest while shooting 59.8% from the field in 46 games.

Back in August, McGee was waived by the Mavs.

Since he still had money on his contract, the Mavs will be paying him over $2 million per year until the end of the 2028 season (h/t Sam Yip of HoopsHype and Spotrac).

Via Keith Smith of Spotrac on August 22: “JaVale McGee is owed $11,741,621 on the two years left of his contract (his 24-25 player option will be exercised before he’s waived-and-stretched). Mavs will stretch that amount over five years at $2,348,324 per season.

Stretch = two times the years left on the deal + one year.”

McGee was the 18th pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, and has also spent time with the Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns, Cleveland Cavaliers and Philadelphia 76ers.

His career averages are 7.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per contest while shooting 57.8% from the field in 909 regular season games.

He has also appeared in 74 NBA playoff games (23 starts).

As for the Kings, they finished the regular season as the ninth seed in the Western Conference with a 46-36 record.

They defeated the Golden State Warriors in their first play-in tournament game, and will visit the New Orleans Pelcians (on Friday) for a chance to be the eighth seed in the NBA playoffs.
