It’s far too early to be hitting the panic button right now, but it appears that Detroit Lions safety and nickelback Brian Branch is recovering from an unknown injury based on recent photographs that have surfaced.
Branch was spotted in town during the draft and photos reveal that the 2023 second-round pick is sporting a boot and is getting around with the help of a scooter. The boot is on Branch’s left foot and it’s unclear what he’s dealing with at this time or what his status is moving forward.
This is obviously at least a bit concerning because Branch played a key role in the Lions’ defense in 2023 and is sorely needed for a season in which Detroit has Super Bowl aspirations.
The Alabama product was sensational in the slot during his rookie campaign. Per Pro Football Focus, Branch surrendered a 62.7% completion rate and 86.9 passer rating when targeted last season, good enough for a PFF coverage grade of 76.0.
Terrion Arnold and Brian Branch back together on the Detroit Lions 🔥
ALSO… zero clue what this Brian Branch injury is, hopefully a quick recovery and nothing serious

The Lions did add plenty of reinforcements this offseason that could help out if Branch is forced to miss any time. Draft picks Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw can both work out of the slot, as can free-agent signing Amik Robertson.
