Jerry Jones has worked his magic at the NFL Draft but now must turn his attention to the bigger lingering problems he has failed to address.
There was added pressure on the recent draft because the franchise had allowed, in their eyes, ‘expensive’ starters to walk.
Dallas has decided to pay their key players new extensions which has meant saving money by drafting cap-friendly rookies.
However, the Cowboys have made no movement on the new contracts front.
Jerry Jones must address fundamental contract after the NFL Draft
Jerry Jones has kicked the can down the road and now has no excuse, with the Draft out the way, to start approaching the negotiation table.
Furthermore, the waiting around has only made the inevitable contracts more expensive.
As franchises around the league pay their players, the market also shifts upwards.
One of the Cowboys, who is expecting a new deal, is wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.
Lamb who finished second in the league for receiving yards is entering his final year on his rookie deal.
Moreover, being a first-round pick, Dallas triggered their receiver’s fifth-year option.
A.J. Brown’s deal has only made CeeDee Lamb’s more expensive
Last week, A.J. Brown became the highest-paid wide receiver with a new three-year $96 million extension.
Therefore, the price has been set for the Dallas Cowboys to cough up and Lamb could negotiate more.
Moreover, the desire to receive a new deal is clear as day because the 25-year-old has been holding out from the franchise’s offseason workouts.
He is deserving of a blockbuster deal and is happy to leverage one by withdrawing services.
Brandin Cooks says Lamb should earn the biggest deal being the best receiver
The media spoke to Cowboys fellow wide receiver Brandin Cooks at the team training facility in The Star.
“I hope he can get every single dollar he can… he’s [Lamb’s] the greatest receiver in the league.”
Cooks has proclaimed that his teammate is the best player in the league for his position.
Undoubtedly, the 2023 First-Team All-Pro will bargain for the best deal with his agent in the coming weeks.
They could be holding out for other All-Star wide receivers Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase to sign their record-breaking deals.
