With NFL training camps in full effect, lots of rumors and news are floating around each day. Many rookies are showing off their skills in videos and intelligence in interviews. The Browns did not have an early pick in this year’s draft but are hoping for some of their later picks to hit including wide receiver Jamari Thrash.
The Browns waited a while to add a new weapon to the offense, as it was not a big need. Wide receiver Jamari Thrash is a new gadget for quarterback Deshaun Watson. The Browns took a chance on him with the 156th overall pick in the fifth round. With a solid skill set and numbers to back it up, wide receiver Jamari Thrash could be the next big thing for the offense.

Wide Receiver Jamari Thrash by the Numbers
Wide receiver Jamari Thrash had a long college tenure which included 49 games including 28 starts. He spent four seasons with Georgia State, where he showed welcoming signs in his third year. In 2021, his third season with the team, he had 32 receptions for 452 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns.
His fourth and final season as a Panther helped showcase his abilities. Thrash hauled in 61 receptions for 1,122 receiving yards and seven receiving touchdowns. He led the Sun Belt in receiving yards and was first-team All-Sun Belt. A move to a bigger school brought him to Louisville, where he continued his success.
Wide receiver Jamari Thrash set a career-high in receptions with 63. He also added 858 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns. Thrash was named second-team All-ACC for his efforts.
Making a Name at the Next Level
The 6’0, 188-pound wideout from LaGrange, Georgia was selected by the Browns with the 21st pick in the fifth round. At the combine, he ran a 4.46 and rated solid in a variety of next-gen statistics. He was 21st for wideouts in production score and 27th in total score.
While he is not the strongest, wide receiver Jamari Thrash brings speed which helps stretch the field for an offense. He can turn a short gain into a long one and possesses a great route tree.
Other strengths of his include his ball tracking on deep throws, separation in tight angles, and his footwork. In an offense that could use some more explosive plays in the passing game besides Amari Cooper, Thrash has potential.
Finding a Role in the Offense
The Browns added wide receiver Jerry Jeudy this offseason to bolster the wide receiver room. He possesses a lot of similar strengths to wide receiver Jamari Thrash. Add in the top two receivers in Amari Cooper and Elijah Moore returning, and it gets crowded quickly.
Tight end David Njoku had a career year and will continue to haul in targets even with less experience with Watson. Thrash has been seen thriving in practices and could pass over two recent draft selections at the position.
David Bell and Cedric Tillman have not done much at all when given the chance, so Thrash could be as high as wide receiver four when the season starts. In an offense expected to pass a lot with running back Nick Chubb recovering from injury, Thrash should see the field in spurts. If he can provide a new wrinkle to the offense, he could end up being a steal from the fifth round.
