It has been quite the summer for the San Francisco 49ers when it comes to the topic of contracts.
Of course, the quarterback market is heating up after the likes of Jordan Love and Tua Tagovailoa recently got their extensions. That’s had a domino effect roll onto the Dak Prescott situation, and thus, the Brock Purdy conversation we’re going to be having until he gets paid in 2025.
But the 49ers also have two other situations at hand, between wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and offensive tackle Trent Williams. Aiyuk has been a “hold-in,” while Williams is holding out. As stated on a recent episode of the Scoop City podcast, though, insider Dianna Russini expects both Aiyuk and Williams to be in San Francisco this season, no question.
One of those contracts may have gotten done, if a recent video has anything to say about it. A well-respected Niners source took to X (Twitter) on Wednesday to share a video of Aiyuk coming out to the field, heading straight to general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan, giving them both handshakes as if he had something to celebrate.
Did Brandon Aiyuk get a contract extension? Pat McAfee sure thinks so
On Wednesday’s episode of The Pat McAfee Show, Pat McAfee speculated as to whether or not this video meant a new contract for Aiyuk.
“The Shanahan one is the one we need to watch,” McAfee said of the handshake between Aiyuk and his head coach.
“This looks like a, ‘hey, heard the good news,” McAfee speculated.
McAfee went on to hypothesize Lynch saying something like, “I told you we’d get there,” when shaking Aiyuk’s hand.
“This is the first time we’ve seen this. We have no clue … maybe one of the situations that had been brewing in San Francisco has been settled,” McAfee said.
He ended the segment by cementing his stance that he believes a deal was indeed done:
“That is not good for the rest of the NFC in what I just saw with that particular dap-up, right there.”
