Week 1, Frank Gore will be a 49ers Hall of Famer
The San Francisco 49ers announced on Thursday that fan favorite running back Frank Gore will be the newest inductee into the Edward J. DeBartolo Sr. San Francisco 49ers Hall of Fame during the team’s Week 1 matchup against the New York Jets on September 9.
Gore becomes the 31st member of the prestigious Hall of Fame for arguably the most storied franchise in sports. The ultimate ironman, Gore appeared in 241 games during his 16-year NFL career. He ran for 16,000 yards, had 81 touchdowns, and added 484 receptions for 3,985 yards, including 18 touchdowns through the air.
Gore is the third-leading rusher in the NFL’s history behind Emmitt Smith and Walter Payton. He’s also the 49ers franchise leader in rushing yards, attempts, and touchdowns. Only Jerry Rice has more yards from scrimmage on the 49ers than Gore. He’s also the only running back in 49ers history to rush for over 1,000 yards in four consecutive seasons—a feat Gore accomplished on two separate occasions.
Gore is now a Football advisor for the 49ers, and it’s probably not long before he works his way up the ladder in the team’s front office.
