Kansas City Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce Were Targets of a “Terrorist Threat”

Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are two of the most recognizable players in the NFL today. Of course, this is, in large part, due to the fact that the Chiefs have won three Super Bowls in the last five years including each of the last two. Their international popularity has grown in the last year, as well, due to Kelce’s relationship with 14-time Grammy Award winner Taylor Swift.

Ever since Kelce and Swift made their relationship public, the pair has been followed closely by fans and the media. After their latest Super Bowl win, the couple was frequently seen celebrating with Mahomes and his wife.

There are, obviously, many benefits to their increased stardom. Of course, they were always popular among NFL fans, but their exposure to millions of people outside of NFL fandom has made them increasingly more marketable.

It also, unfortunately, makes them targets of individuals with nefarious intentions.

On Friday, country music star Morgan Wallen had a concert at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. The start of the show, however, was delayed by 40 minutes.

As it turns out, the delay was due to police having to find and arrest a man who made “terrorist threats” against Mahomes and Kelce, who were scheduled to be on stage with Wallen during the concert.

According to the Jackson County Prosecutor,

“An Illinois man has been charged with a felony after he threatened on social media to shoot two individuals at a concert Friday night at Arrowhead in Kansas City, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.

“Aaron Brown of Winchester, Ill, faces a Class E felony of Making a Terrorist Threat in the 2nd Degree.*

“According to court records, Kansas City police detectives and intelligence analysts in the Kansas City Fusion Center working at GEHA field at Arrowhead on Friday, Aug. 2, 2024, officers were monitoring threats at a planned concert when they observed on X (Twitter) a threat against two individuals, who were members of the Kansas City Chiefs organization, were present at the event. The defendant confirmed to police where he was located at Arrowhead. The concert was delayed for 40 minutes while the defendant was located.”

Brown was arrest and charged with a felony. The show went on with Mahomes and Kelce seemingly unaffected by the threats made against them.

Unfortunately, this is not the first threat that has been directed at Kelce, in particular, over the past year. His relationship with Swift has made him a regular target of crazed fans. He even had to move out of his house due to random people showing up unannounced.

Mahomes and Kelce can increase their noterity even more this season if the Chiefs win Super Bowl LIX, which will be held in New Orleans. Kansas City, as mentioned, as won the last two Super Bowls, making them one of just a few teams that has won back-to-back Super Bowl titles.

No team has won three in a row.

Obviously, the two stars will be vital to the Chiefs’ chance of a three-peat. Mahomes has won three Super Bowl MVP’s and Kelce is Kansas City’s top receiving target.

Hopefully they can get through the season without anymore crazed threats.
