Olympics: Draymond Green Drops Eye-Opening Take on Team USA vs. Dream Team Debate

The 1992 Barcelona Olympics’ Dream Team has always been the standard for the United States when it comes to international basketball. For Golden State Warriors’ Draymond Green, though, the current roster of Team USA might come out as the winner against the Michael Jordan-led squad.

The 1992 United States men’s Olympic basketball team, popularly known as the Dream Team, was a historic squad. It was the first American Olympic team to feature active professional players from the NBA and has been widely regarded as the greatest sports team ever assembled.

At the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, the Dream Team dominated its opponents, winning games by an average of 44 points and claiming the gold medal against Croatia. The team’s collective talent and dominance were unmatched, with players like Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird leading the charge.

The formation of the Dream Team was made possible by a 1989 decision by FIBA, the international basketball governing body, to allow professional players to participate in the Olympics. This opened the door for the NBA’s best to represent the United States, a move that helped cement the sport’s global popularity.

The Dream Team’s legacy extends beyond their Olympic triumph. They were inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame in 2009, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010, and the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2017, solidifying their status as one of the greatest sports teams of all time.

Golden State Warriors’ Shares Eye-Opening Take on Olympics Debate Between Team USA and Dream Team

It’s no secret Green has a lot of opinions about basketball and every topic related to the sport. His latest take on the Dream Team and the 2024 Olympics Team USA was recently shared in a video posted by The Volume on X.

The 2024 USA Basketball Men’s National Team has been announced , featuring a roster of top NBA players who will represent the United States at the Paris Olympics. Some of the notable guys included are LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Joel Embiid, Jayson Tatum, Devin Booker, Bam Adebayo, and Derrick White, among others.

While Green’s opinion may hold some water, there’s no way of knowing which of the two teams will come out on top. What’s looking certain, though, is that Team USA is on track to win the gold again by the time the Olympics is done.
