The Green Bay Packers will be going into the 2024 season with hopes of continuing their elite play that was taking place over the latter half of the 2023 season.  Over their final 10 games the Packers went 7-3 and wound up just three points shy (and a missed field goal) from the NFC Championship game.

There were numerous resources spent on the defensive side of the ball to ensure Green Bay fields a competitive team.  Now they have one more.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Packers have signed DE Zach Morton.

Morton signing with the Packers on Tuesday made sense in lieu of Kingsley Enagbare, Keshawn Banks, and Deslin Alexandre being slowed down by injuries.Ezoic

After working out for the team on Tuesday, he should be able to play right away.

Morton played four seasons at Syracuse. After redshirting in 2017 and missing 2018 with a knee injury, he played in 2019 and 2020. His final two seasons were spent at Akron. His senior year in 2022 was marked by 4.5 sacks and eight tackles for loss. In 2021, he had a 24-yard pick-six.

The athletic profile certainly fits the Packers. He measured 6 feet 4 7/8 inches and 261 pounds when he entered the 2023 draft. Although he ran the 40 in 4.88 seconds, he posted strong numbers in the 10-yard split, vertical jump, broad jump, and three-cone drill to post a Relative Athletic Score of 9.32.

It will be interesting to see how the Packers’ defensive line shakes out come week one of the season.
