The Golden Bachelor star Theresa Nist went through the wringer with Gerry Turner after their quickie marriage and divorce, and I’m convinced that Gerry never loved Theresa at all. Throughout The Golden Bachelor season 1, Bachelor Nation got the chance to see Gerry date a group of women who were all interested in finding love, but ultimately chose Theresa to spend the rest of his life with. Proposing to the New Jersey native, Gerry was excited to have found someone who had the same zest for life he did, but their relationship quickly devolved, tearing apart in the public eye.
While Gerry proposed to Theresa during the finale of The Golden Bachelor, his true colors were exposed during the final weeks of the series. To keep things moving forward for the franchise, Gerry and Theresa announced they’d be getting married on a live TV special for all of Bachelor Nation to watch. Gerry’s behavior had been unearthed, but Theresa stood by his side and married Gerry, though the couple still had some serious hurdles to overcome about their future. Three months after the wedding, the Golden couple announced they’d be getting divorced, making it clear Bachelor Nation had been duped.
Gerry Was Looking For Fame & Notoriety, Not Love
He Was Accused Of Trying To Imitate Tom Sandoval
During The Golden Bachelor’s run, Gerry was shown to be a sweet, down-to-earth guy excited to find love again after tragically losing his late wife. While Gerry’s backstory wasn’t fabricated, the fact that he’d come to Bachelor Nation without some baggage was sorely underreported. It was revealed after the season came to an end that Gerry had been looking for reality TV fame when he joined the show, with a source even saying he’d recognized the fame of Vanderpump Rules villain Tom Sandoval and wanted to emulate his trajectory. Gerry was looking to be famous, not hoping for a wife.
Gerry’s Storyline With Theresa Felt Contrived
Their Connection Never Felt Real
Throughout The Golden Bachelor, it was clear that the show’s production team had edited Gerry and Theresa’s relationship to be incredibly meaningful. With just six short weeks of filming, the depth of the couple’s connection had to be wildly exaggerated for it to be believable. While Theresa likely formed a firm connection with Gerry during her time on the series, Gerry had to build connections with many more women, leaving little room for him to actually, genuinely find love with anyone. Instead, it appears The Golden Bachelor fabricated Gerry and Theresa’s story to make them more compelling to Bachelor Nation.
Gerry’s Too Happy After The Divorce
He Wasn’t Actually Upset About The Split
After his split from Theresa, Gerry has been on social media regularly, sharing content with him happily living his post-Golden Bachelor life. Though he shouldn’t have to sit in his sadness for weeks and months, the fact that Gerry was back at it quickly on social media without even taking a break or seemingly mourning his failed relationship was odd. I believe that Gerry truly never felt genuine love for Theresa during the run of The Golden Bachelor and afterward. Instead, his bounce-back and overall attitude surrounding the relationship has made me believe The Golden Bachelor was a fabricated sham.
