Lock’s first game with the New York Giants was brief and painful.
NFL preseason gets underway for 30 of 32 teams this week, including the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday afternoon against the Los Angeles Chargers.
One of the two games taking place on Thursday is the New York Giants versus the Detroit Lions, whose repeated joint practice fights will cost both clubs $200,000. With Daniel Jones not playing, former Seahawks backup Drew Lock had the opportunity to make his case for the starting spot over the embattled Jones.
Unfortunately for Lock, his appearance on a rainy night was brief, ineffective, and quite painful. After a three-and-out on the opening series, Lock was sacked hard by Isaac Ukwu on third down for another three-and-out.

His next series saw him throw a double coverage interception to Lions safety Brandon Joseph.

His final snap of the night ended in a hip injury that, in typical New York sports fan fashion, resulted in excited cheers for third-string quarterback Tommy DeVito, who gained a bit of popularity last season when he replaced the injured Jones.
Lock finished 4-10 for 17 yards and an interception, a sack taken, and a near strip-sack that was ruled an incomplete pass. While he was listed as questionable with that hip injury, there’s no need to risk anything further in preseason.
The Seahawks play the New York Giants in Week 5. Perhaps it’ll be a Drew Lock revenge game, but at the moment it looks more likely that Jones’ starting job is safe (for now).
