BREAKING: Former Packers draft pick signs with San Francisco 49ers

Jonathan Garvin is now a 49er after a successful stint in the UFL.

On Thursday, the San Francisco 49ers reportedly signed former Green Bay Packers draft pick Jonathan Garvin, who most recently won a UFL championship with the Birmingham Stallions this spring. Garvin was originally drafted in 2020 out of the University of Miami and played 38 games (including one start) over three years with the Packers, culminating in 673 defensive snaps played. Garvin was cut in July of 2023 by the Packers and was looking for an opportunity to return to the NFL until he signed with the Stallions in March.

At the UFL level, Garvin recorded 3.5 sacks but added another two in the postseason — which led the league. San Francisco was in the market for a pass-rusher after they placed Drake Jackson, a former second-round pick, on the injured reserve list on Thursday.

Only a recently turned 25 years old, Garvin is now going to fight for playing time behind Nick Bosa, Leonard Floyd, 2023 draft pick Robert Beal Jr. and Yetur Gross-Mators on the 49ers’ roster. Good luck to him, but not too much luck. With San Francisco beating the Packers in their last five postseason meetings, the last thing we need to see is a Garvin sack end a Green Bay season.
