Philadelphia Eagles safety CJ Gardner-Johnson left Monday’s training camp practice early with a shoulder injury.
Per multiple reports, Chauncey’s injury is considered minor and while he didn’t participate in team drills on Tuesday, he was spotted doing some off-field work to the side.
His presence was missed last season after the Eagles went from ranking one of the best in 2022 and making a Super Bowl appearance to finishing 30th in both points allowed per game (25.2) and 31st in passing yards allowed (3,125) in 2023.
The Eagles attempted to keep him, but when he didn’t get what he wanted, he signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions.
After playing only two games for Detroit, however, Gardner-Johnson was placed on injured reserve with a torn pectoral muscle. He returned for the divisional round of the playoffs.
He registered 17 total tackles, three passes defended and one interception through three games with Detroit.
The Eagles will play their first of three preseason matchups on Friday against the Baltimore Ravens and if Chauncey isn’t available, they will turn to Reed Blankenship, Avonte Maddox, or James Bradberry instead.
