How the Broncos benefited from the Haason Reddick mess

Haason Reddick continues to hold out from New York Jets training camp as he seeks a big contract extension. Riddick’s fines for skipping practice have now surpassed $1 million, according to ESPN.

Meanwhile, the Denver Broncos have benefited from the ordeal.

The Jets acquired Reddick in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles in April, sending a conditional third-round draft pick to Philly. The Eagles parted with the pass rusher because they could not meet his future contract demands (Reddick is entering the final year of his deal).

New York acquired Reddick knowing that he wanted a new deal, and they could not afford to pay both Reddick and John Franklin-Myers. So the Jets shipped Franklin-Myers off to the Broncos at a discount price.

In a pinch, New York agreed to trade Franklin-Myers to Denver for a 2026 sixth-round draft pick in April. The Jets planned on giving Reddick a new deal, but they did not negotiate an extension before acquiring him. Now they’ve given up Franklin-Myers at a discount and Riddick is yet to report.

It’s a big mess for New York, one that proved beneficial for the Broncos.
