There’s always that moment in movie sequels where the hero has run out of options and his only choice is to go and get the bad guy from the first movie and ask him for help. The Detroit Lions could do a football version of that story if they go this way.

Let me start out by saying that this guy has been very hate-able for years. If you’re a Lions fan you hated two Packers players the most. Aaron Rodgers and left tackle David Bakhtiari. Maybe it’s because the latter is such a good actor and he was always able to draw flags by acting like his head just got ripped off by an edge rusher. Ok, I’m getting upset now. Let’s calm down.

The Lions have a big problem right now with their offensive line, Especially at the swing tackle spot. Colby Sorsdal is struggling, Connor Galvin was playing really well, but now he’s out for the year, Dan Skipper is ok and Giovanni Manu is about to red shirt the year. The Lions need help.

The Packers released Bakhtiari in March after 11 seasons and five All-Pro appearances. He has not retired, he’s still out there looking for a place to play, but teams may not be looking to start him anymore. Here’s his chance to do his best Bill Walton impression and be the sixth man on a Super Bowl contending team.

What I’m saying is that the Lions should be the hero who goes to the enemy from the first movie and do a team up with him. You don’t have to sign him to a mega deal and it doesn’t have to be long term either. Bakhtiari will turn 33-years-old next month and this could be his last chance to play in the league.

Why not do it like so many guys around the NFC North do and just go to the other NFC North team. The Lions have a prime spot for him and they could give him a chance to win a Super Bowl for the first time in his career.

He’s not the All-Pro guy anymore, but he has never had a bad season. It’s worth making a phone call over.
