If you ask NBA fans’ thoughts on Hall of Famer Steve Nash, a lot of people will have different opinions on him. One thing fans can’t deny is his outstanding point guard play.

With his high passing IQ, Nash would have a Hall of Fame career, and go down as one of the best point guards in NBA history. But, even with being in the Hall of Fame, people will still downgrade Nash’s career.

Even though Nash spent six worthy seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, Nash’s career is still being hated on in a post from GiveMeSport.

Steve Nash undeservingly named most overrated player of 2000s

Stephen A. Pegues of GiveMeSport dubbed Nash as the most overrated NBA player from the 2000s. For the Hall of Famer, that is an unfair label. Some might forget how much Nash impacted the Mavs.

Nash began his Mavs tenure in the 1998-99 season, where the Mavs haven’t made the playoffs since 1990. In 2001, Nash was a key part in helping the Mavs get back to the playoffs.

The following two seasons in Dallas, Nash made the All-Star Game and was also on the All-NBA third team. Nash also helped the Mavs reach the 2003 Western Conference Finals.

The 2003-04 season Nash would play his last season in Dallas. Nash finished with a then career-high 8.8 assists per game. Nash would sign with the Phoenix Suns in the 2004 offseason, where he flourished by winning back-to-back MVPs in his first two seasons with the Suns, and finished second in MVP voting behind Dirk Nowitzki in 2007.

Not bringing Nash back to Dallas after 2004 would be a heartbreaking mistake for the franchise as the Mavs had a future two-time MVP. “What if Nash never left Dallas” will always be a question surrounding the Mavs because of how good his career was in Phoenix after leaving Big D.

If Nash’s career was overrated in the 2000s, why was he a two-time MVP, led the league in assists three times before the new decade, and helped the Suns reach the Conference Finals in 2005 and 2006? Nash’s career gets disrespected a ton, but people don’t realize how good the floor general was.

For being an “overrated player,” Nash ended up making the NBA 75 team, and will go down as arguably the best floor general of all-time. Whether if he was in Dallas or Phoenix, Nash was a great player and teammate to play for. Some respect has to be given to Nash at some point, but the disrespect continues for Nash.
