Key Chiefs wide receiver injured on first play of preseason

Even after winning their second straight Super Bowl, the Kansas City Chiefs knew they needed to upgrade their wide receiver room.

Key Chiefs wide receiver injured on first play of preseason

They attempted to do that by signing Marquise “Hollywood” Brown to a one-year contract that could be worth up to $11 million for the 2024 season.

Despite the relatively small investment, the Chiefs are still counting on him to be a major player in their offense, and he certainly brings plenty of big-play potential. That is why they had to be a little concerned on Saturday night when he left the game with a shoulder injury on the very first snap of the preseason.

Brown caught an 11-yard pass from quarterback Patrick Mahomes and was driven into the ground on the tackle.

The Chiefs already announced that it is a shoulder injury, but the severity is not yet known.

Brown caught 51 passes for 574 yards and four touchdowns as a member of the Arizona Cardinals during the 2023 season. As pedestrian as those numbers might seem, one has to keep in mind that he was limited to just 14 games and worked with below-average quarterback play.

It is also worth noting that the only wide receiver on the Chiefs roster that topped those numbers during the 2023 season was rookie Rashee Rice. Brown’s numbers would have still made him the second most productive wide receiver on the team. Now the Chiefs just have to hope his injury is not serious.
