NFL Rumors: Could tһe Cowboys be Dіsсussіng Trаdіng Dаk Presсott to tһe Rаіders?

Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Dak Prescott could be heading for a split. Owner Jerry Jones has been quite vocal about hinting at Prescott leaving, even somewhat revealing that the franchise quarterback is likely to be playing in the final year of his contract.

While Jones did not come out and directly state it, many analysts have questioned if Prescott and the Cowboys are done. Prescott has failed to reach the Super Bowl in his seven years playing for the team, and that is likely one of the reasons why Jones is far more willing to let him walk.

The issue is Prescott has led the league in many stats through his seven seasons under center but has not made it past the Divisional round of the playoffs. Case in point, he was the passing touchdown leader in 2023, with 36 to his name, but stats don’t mean much if you can’t turn that into championships. Despite being a solid quarterback, he just can’t seem to shake the narrative that he doesn’t show up when he is truly needed—and it’s hard to argue that fact when his resume proves this point.

The consensus is that Prescott is on his last chance with the Cowboys. However, what if Jones decided to trade him for a treasure trove worth of picks? There is a growing rumor spinning that Prescott could be headed to the West Coast.

Craig Carton of “The Carton Show” has indicated that rumors have begun to imply that, “The Las Vegas Raiders have had some conversations in which the Raiders would send four picks and maybe Gardner Minshew to Dallas to get the expiring contract of Dak Prescott.”

Carton indicates that there is no “truth” to this rumor, but he has heard some conversations about this as being some “smoke down in Dallas.” He indicates that it could just be “silly sports radio talk,” but rumors can sometimes be proven true.

Instead of Jones having to deal with Prescott another season, why wouldn’t they want to beef up their roster with four picks and Minshew? Minshew is still a quality mid to bottom-level starter and secured a respectable 3,305 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, and nine interceptions in 2023.

The Cowboys were quiet in free agency as well, so this deal could benefit the team even more should they secure at least two first-round picks for Prescott. They could use said picks to also move up in the draft and land a potential starting quarterback in Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. or Oregon’s Bo Nix.

Rumors can often be pretty wild, but this one makes a bit too much sense. Prescott is already presumably on his way out, and Jones would likely want to do everything he can to stack many draft picks to build his team to remain an NFC powerhouse.
