NFL Moсk Drаft: Rome Odunze ‘Dreаm Sсenаrіo’ For New York Jets?

Could the New York Jets wind up with receivers Garrett Wilson, Mike Williams and rookie Rome Odunze?

The New York Jets went through yet another season of disappointment, which all began on the first few snaps of the 2023-24 regular season when quarterback Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles in the season opener.

Now, possessing the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, quarterback finally is not a huge issue for the franchise with Rodgers set to return from his season-ending injury. With such a high selection, many draft pundits are locking in on the Jets getting help for Rodgers, whether it be offensive line or another weapon is yet to be determined.

In the latest mock draft over on CBS Sports, the Jets went in the direction of adding another star-caliber receiver to pair alongside Garrett Wilson long-term.

“Maybe the Jets go tackle in this situation, but the idea of pairing Rome Odunze with Garrett Wilson was just too enticing to pass up,” CBS Sports’ Tom Fornelli wrote. “Their games compliment each other so well, and would give the Jets an incredible array of talent on offense.”

Last season for the Washington Huskies, Odunze put up monster numbers amassing 1,640 yards and 13 touchdowns on 92 receptions. Odunze headlines what some consider to be a generational wide receiver draft class alongside Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr. and LSU’s Malik Nabers.

“Odunze is a big, athletic wideout with exceptional hands,” NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah wrote on Odunze. “He can play outside or in the slot. He is refined and polished in everything he does on the field. He uses a variety of releases at the line of scrimmage and is a clean route runner. He uses his strength to lean into defenders before separating out of the break point. He thrives in traffic, possessing the ability to pluck the football and absorb big shots over the middle of the field. He makes some incredible adjustments on poorly thrown balls. He tracks naturally over his shoulder. After the catch, he is very tough to bring down and has some nifty make-miss ability. He plays with a ton of passion and energy. Overall, Odunze is a complete player and reminds me of Larry Fitzgerald coming out of college.”

If Odunze comes anywhere close to Fitzgerald, the Jets will be well on their way to immense offensive success in the Rodgers era. A one-two punch of Wilson and Odunze could have opposing secondaries in serious danger.

Odunze would be a home run selection for the Jets, if he does slip to No. 10. With so many teams trying to move up for a receiver, the question is will he actually fall into the Jets’ hands?
