Ravens injury updates: Bateman expected back ‘very soon,’ Wiggins injury a minor AC sprain

Following the Ravens’ preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday, Head Coach John Harbaugh gave updates on players absent Sunday’s practice.

Most notably was first-round cornerback Nate Wiggins, who left Friday’s game with a shoulder injury and no update was given after the exhibition. According to Harbaugh, it’s a minor injury, and the same one as Harbaugh’s when he participated in the training camp waterslide and landed on his shoulder.

Ravens injury updates: Bateman expected back 'very soon,' Wiggins injury a minor AC sprain - Baltimore Beatdown

“Wiggins is not a serious injury,” Harbaugh said. “He has the same one I got last week on the waterslide deal. … It was actually an AC sprain, so I don’t even know if his is actually that serious. But, I would say that from an immune system standpoint, there some superpowers that have to do with healing for some people, and I’m just one of those guys that just comes back like that. So, I can’t expect that of all our guys. So, we’ll see how he responds.”

Seventh-round rookie safety Sanoussi Kane, who suffered a stinger in Friday’s game and did not return, was held out of practice on Sunday. According to Harbaugh, both Kane and rookie running back Rasheen Ali are dealing with stingers.

“Those guys both ended up being kind of stinger type [injuries] in the game. So, they’ll go through protocol with that,” Harbaugh said. “They usually involve those guys in the concussion protocol. I don’t even know if they’re in the concussion protocol to be honest with you. I’m not sure. But they’ll be fine.”

A surprise from Friday was the absence of outside linebacker David Ojabo, who was not cleared to participate in the preseason game, though he has not missed a training camp practice. Harbaugh shared he expects Ojabo to play this Saturday against the Atlanta Falcons.

“I do think he will be [cleared], but that’s up to the doctors,” Harbaugh said. “They decide that. So, they just didn’t clear him for this game. I’m anticipating he will be [cleared] but we’ll see. He practiced full-speed today. He looked pretty good.”

As for wide receivers Rashod Bateman and Devontez Walker, Harbaugh expects Bateman to return soon and Walker to get more involved in the preseason as he fully recovers from a lingering rib injury.

“We expect Bate back real soon,” Harbaugh said. “…[Walker’s] been dealing with a rib thing. So, he’s been a little limited with that. It should be good this week if nothing else happens and I’d like to see him get out there and take a lot more reps and really see what he can do.”

Harbaugh also gave an update on rookie cornerback T.J. Tampa, who has not practiced in training camp due to sports hernia surgeries.

“He’s getting close. Not probably this week, but he’s getting close,” Harbaugh said.
