With the NFL offseason comes predictions and bold takes. That specifically happens with trades that could happen before the season or the deadline. With that in mind, Tyler Lockett becomes an intriguing trade option, and if he is traded, it will be to the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Chiefs were doing a good job of adding to their receiving room with Xavier Worthy and Marquise Brown to go with Rashee Rice. That was until Brown got injured with a Sternoclavicular injury which will keep him out for about five weeks. The Chiefs need a more well-rounded receiver room and with Worthy being more of a speed receiver they need another reliable receiver threat at all three-levels. The ideal receiver is Tyler Lockett.
Lockett has been on the Seattle Seahawks for nine seasons. Over that time, he has put up 8,504 yards and 61 touchdowns. What makes Lockett valuable is how he has a career drop percentage of only 4.0% while hauling in 73.3% of his passes. That type of reliability is exactly what Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offense needs.
So why would the Seahawks trade Lockett? First, it’s a new coaching staff with Mike Macdonald that has no ties to Lockett, who will be turning 32. In addition, they currently have a projection of being 25,579,753 above the cap space, but by trading Lockett they would save $14.9 million. It would be tough for Seattle to do, but with DK Metcalf and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, it wouldn’t hurt their offense too much. Not to mention, Jake Bobo has been standing out, and they can acquire draft capital to continue to improve the room and get younger.
