‘We’re still chasing his legacy!’ Kyrie Irving gets honest about competing with Steph Curry

Kyrie Irving was humble in victory after he led the Dallas Mavericks to a hard-fought win over the visiting Golden State Warriors. He had nothing but good words for rival, veteran Dubs guard Steph Curry, who once again had an impressive outing despite being on the losing side.

Kyrie Irving drops Stephen Curry eye-opening take after Mavericks-Warriors clash

Irving was asked after the game during the postgame press conference what his motivation is always like when he comes up against a player like Steph Curry. ‘Uncle Drew’ didn’t go about tooting his horn as he talked about how great Steph is, his influence on the game, and how he brings the best out of others, including opponents.

I just show respect to the guys like that; he has put in a ton of work for our league, he has set the bar for a lot of us point guards of where we want to be, we are still chasing his legacy. Kyrie Irving said

The Baby-Faced Assassin has undoubtedly been one of the league’s best point guards, and his contributions to the league can’t be overlooked. Irving is among many great players to join the queue in acknowledging the four-time NBA champ.

Steph Curry, however, ended the game on the losing side as he scored 28 points, six rebounds and five assists. This season, he is averaging 26.5 PPG, 4.4 RPG, and 5.0 APG for the Dubs.

Kyrie Irving led Dallas Mavericks to victory in the absence of Luka Doncic

Kyrie Irving played without his Robin, Luka Doncic, who was ruled out of the game against the Warriors with a knee injury. In his absence, the Mavs beat the odds to win 108-106, partly helped by a solid third-quarter performance.

Irving came up with 26 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists in 42 minutes of gameplay to end the Warriors’ six-game winning streak. Alongside Irving, Mavs’ PJ Washington came to life as he stepped up with 32 points, five rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and, very notably, the game-winning shot.

The win felt like an act of revenge as their only defeat in their last ten games, unfortunately, was against the Warriors in the equally close 104-100 away loss. The Dallas Mavericks are 5th in the Western Conference standings with a 47-30 record and play the Houston Rockets next.
