Lаteѕt Buzz on Jаred Goff’ѕ Lіonѕ Contrаct Extenѕіon

A new, lucrative contract could be in store for Jared Goff this offseason.

The veteran Lions signal-caller’s contract — a four-year, $134 million deal which he signed in 2019 with Los Angeles — runs out at the end of the 2024 season. And, according to ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler, Detroit plans on not only keeping him long term but also paying him handsomely for his services.

“He wants to be there. Only 29 years old, due to make about $28 million this year, so he’s going to have to be in that threshold of $45 (million), maybe even $50 million a year, based on the way he’s played. So, it’s going to take some time to get that done,” Fowler said on SportsCenter Sunday.

Over the last two seasons, the 2016 No. 1 overall pick — who joined Detroit via a trade with the Rams in 2021 — has enjoyed a career resurgence. He’s thrown for 59 touchdowns and 9,013 yards, while completing 66.2 percent of his passes. He’s also been selected to a Pro Bowl, and has led the Lions to a 21-13 record, including the franchise’s first division championship in 30 years.

It’s not just the Lions that would like to get a deal done, either. Goff has made it clear that he would like to continue playing for the upstart Detroit franchise.

“I’ve loved every second of my time here and would love more,” Goff told reporters the Monday following Detroit’s loss in the 2023 NFC Championship Game. “Again, I love Dan and love the players here and my teammates. Yeah, it would be great (to get an extension done), but it’s not up to me.”

Undoubtedly, Goff has earned a new contract, and the organization is firmly behind the 29-year-old quarterback.

Goff is set to make a base salary of $22.3 million in the final year of his current deal.
