Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts will be working with a different offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2024. Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore will be new to Hurts, but he knows quarterbacks coach Doug Nussmeier.
Hurts and Nussmeier have connections to Alabama, but that’s not where they crossed paths. Nussmeier served as the Crimson Tide’s offensive coordinator in the 2012 and 2013 seasons. Hurts played at Alabama in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
“Coach Nuss recruited me to Florida back then when I was coming out of high school,” Hurts said about Nussmeier, who was the Gators’ offensive coordinator from 2015 through 2017 (and lost to Hurts and Alabama 56-14 in the 2016 SEC Championship Game), “so I have a pre-existing relationship with him.”
Moore and Nussmeier come to Philadelphia after five NFL seasons together. Moore served as the Dallas Cowboys’ offensive coordinator from 2019 through 2022. Nussmeier was the tight-ends coach in 2019 and quarterbacks coach in 2020 through 2022. Last season, Moore and Nussmeier worked as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, respectively, for the Los Angeles Chargers.
“We’re just all excited,” Hurts said during a Wednesday press conference. “I know they’re kind of finalizing some of the things, crossing their t’s and dotting their i’s in terms of what it is exactly going to be. But I’m just all ears. I’m a sponge, and I think there’s some beauty in that. …
“I think the one thing individually as a player I’ve always had a desire for is just growth and development, and I think that’s allowed me to have these opportunities I have now being here at this place and just being able to continue and grow over the years of my career, and so that’s what I desire to do. I’m excited to have the opportunity to do that with our coaches.”
With Hurts entering his fifth NFL season, Moore will be the quarterback’s fourth offensive coordinator. In college, Hurts had a different offensive coordinator every season at Alabama – Lane Kiffin, Brian Daboll and Mike Locksley – before playing his final college season at Oklahoma.
“I find myself in a situation very similar to college in terms of having a constantly revolving door in terms of coordinators and coaches,” Hurts said. “But I’ve always managed to have success in it, so that’s always been a good thing because you’ve been able to learn from people and apply it and kind of take what applies to you.”

Hurts is preparing for his fourth season as Philadelphia’s starting quarterback. The Eagles have gone to the playoffs in each of the previous three, and in 2022 advanced all the way to the Super Bowl.
But after starting the 2023 season with 10 victories in its first 11 games, Philadelphia won only once more over the seven remaining games.
The Eagles began their offseason program on Monday.
Hurts said he plans on “leaving it to no one else to set the culture and how I want it to be, communicating that with everyone above and communicating that with my teammates and carrying it. I have a standard I want to play to, and I want to play to that all the time.
“And so in the end, the No. 1 thing you’re going to establish that with is with work.”
