The 2024 NFL Draft promises to be a pivotal one for the NY Jets. The Jets are hoping to not only break their 13-year playoff drought in 2024, but they’re hoping to legitimately compete for a Super Bowl.
General manager Joe Douglas has done an admirable job of plugging holes and bolstering the Jets’ roster so far this offseason, but there is still work to be done. He’ll have an opportunity to complete his offseason roster revamp in this year’s draft.
The Jets are slated to pick 10th overall in the draft later this month, although seeing as though the team doesn’t pick again until No. 72 overall, there have been rumblings that they could look to trade down.
Perhaps the Jets also explore trade-up options if one of the top wide receivers or offensive tackle prospects begins to slide toward the back half of the top 10. All options remain on the table.
That said, for the purposes of this article, we’re going to assume the Jets stay put at No. 10. With that in mind, what time should Jets fans expect their favorite team to be on the clock?
The 2024 NFL Draft will begin at 8 pm ET, and considering each team is given 10 minutes to make a selection, simple math dictates the Jets will be on the clock at No. 10 overall 90 minutes after the start of the draft.
Not so fast, however. Although every team is given 10 minutes to make a pick, not every team uses their entire time. That means the Jets will likely pick a little earlier than 9:30.
We can use the last couple of drafts as a reference point here. The Chicago Bears used the 10th overall pick to select Tennessee offensive tackle Darnell Wright last year at around 9:20 pm ET.
Meanwhile, the Jets were the holders of the 10th pick in 2022, and they used it to select Ohio State wide receiver Garrett Wilson a little before 9:15 pm ET. That gives us a pretty good range for this year’s draft.
Expect the Jets to be on the clock — assuming they don’t trade down or up — anywhere between 9 and 9:30 pm ET. If you don’t want to miss the Jets’ pick, you can safely tune in around 9 pm and feel confident you won’t miss it.
