Originally a second-round pick of the Carolina Panthers in 2015, Funchess signed with the Lions in 2022 as a tight end but didn’t last long. A little over two months after arriving in Detroit in June, he was released.

Prior to his stint in Detroit, Funchess spent four seasons with the Panthers and one with the Indianapolis Colts, and he had a cup of coffee with the Green Bay Packers.
