Bears rookie delivered ‘Near-Perfect Performance’ vs. Bills, says report

Chicago Bears fans were left elated on Saturday afternoon after rookie quarterback Caleb Williams passed his first NFL test with flying colors.

Williams’s sample size vs. the Buffalo Bills wasn’t enormous (just two drives), but the No. 1 overall pick made a variety of winning plays, including a couple with a notably high degree of difficulty.

Bleacher Report’s NFL Staff was certainly left impressed with Williams, as it featured Williams heavily in a piece about the weekend’s debut preseason games, specifically in a segment entitled, “Chicago Bears’ Caleb Williams Generates Excitement with Near-Perfect Performance in Debut”.

“It’s difficult not to be impressed with what this year’s No. 1 overall pick, Caleb Williams, did Saturday in his debut against the Buffalo Bills,” Bleacher Report’s NFL Staff said.

“Williams displayed some of the traits that made him a special talent … An off-balance laser, while rolling to his right with a defender chasing, isn’t normal. It’s an exceptional throw.

“Keep in mind, he was nearly perfect through two drives. He would have completed his first six passes before an outright miss if not for back-to-back drops by tight end Cole Kmet and D.J. Moore. … The Chicago Bears have never featured a quarterback this talented.”

With anticipation for the regular season high and the amount of football to watch low, it’s going to be difficult for Bears fans not to participate in a mega overreaction to two drives.

At the same time, Williams wasn’t playing out of character, and there’s no reason to believe that he can’t repeat — and build upon — a lot of the plays he made in his debut.
