To recap the 2023-24 fantasy basketball season, let’s review and analyze the impact players on the Boston Celtics had.
Boston Celtics Fantasy Basketball 2023-24 Season Review
Jayson Tatum
The Celtics retooled in the 2023 offseason by acquiring two stars, impacting the production of their existing crew. Jayson Tatum saw a slight regression in his fantasy value but still produced elite numbers. His stats notably dropped in points (-3.2 from 2022-23), while he had smaller dips in rebounds and free throw percentage. However, the 26-year-old was once again the model of availability, missing only eight matches. Tatum also thrived in multiple categories. He still offered excellent numbers in points, ranking eighth in the NBA for PPG. The forward was prone to having some off shooting performances but made up for it when he exploded offensively. Tatum was also an exceptional source of threes and free throw percentage. He was good at dishing out assists, pulling down boards, and grabbing steals while converting shots almost exactly at the league average (47.4%). His blocks were decent, but his biggest flaw was turnovers.

Kristaps Porzingis
Kristaps Porzingis was one new addition following a three-team trade which sent Marcus Smart to the Memphis Grizzlies. Injuries have plagued the 29-year-old’s career, and this season was similar. He appeared in 57 games, missing time due to various issues. Porzingis still emerged as a valuable piece, even with some of his stats declining following a career 2022-23 season with the Washington Wizards. On Boston, he thrived in blocks and was a great rebounder thanks to his seven-foot-two frame. He also used his length to his advantage on the offensive end, contributing points by doing most of his damage in the paint. He even chipped in some threes while minimizing turnovers. Notably, Porzingis had his most efficient season, converting just over 50% of his shots, and was effective at the charity stripe. The only categories the power forward/center lacked were assists and steals, but he still provided a handful.

Derrick White
Creating a new, star-studded lineup was expected to hurt Derrick White’s value. Instead, he took a massive leap from the 2022-23 season. As the 86th-ranked category player per BasketballMonster that year, White jumped almost 60 spots in 2023-24. The defensive ace had a career year on that end of the floor, averaging personal bests in steals and blocks, compiling just over two stocks per game. The guard also posted new career-highs in threes, free throw percentage, rebounds, and assists. His ability to do a bit of everything made White a valuable fantasy asset. There wasn’t one stat that he really lacked. His greatest strengths were blocks, steals, threes, free-throw percentage, and assists. But he’s also a solid points guy who hit shots at a slightly higher rate than the average NBA guard last season (44.9%). The 30-year-old commits few turnovers and can pull down a decent number of rebounds despite being six-foot-four.
- Stats: 15.2 PPG, 5.2 APG, 4.2 RPG, 1.0 SPG, 1.2 BPG, 2.7 3PM, 1.5 TOV, 46/40/90, 73 GP

Jaylen Brown
One of the biggest fantasy disappointments on the Celtics was Jaylen Brown. After ranking in the top 50 in category leagues in 2022-23 and earning a massive contract in the offseason, expectations were high for the three-time All-Star. However, he failed to crack the top 75 this past year, and his production decreased. His free throw percentage took the worst hit, dropping about 6% from the previous season, and he struggled with turnovers. While his scoring impact also lessened through dips in points and threes, he recorded career-bests in field goal percentage and assists. Brown was also prone to having rough offensive outings but had other high-scoring games. Moreover, his small step back offensively allowed him to focus more on the defensive end. He made minor improvements in his average stocks, although his rebounds declined. Brown’s top categories were points, threes, field goal percentage, and steals.
- Stats: 23.0 PPG, 3.6 APG, 5.5 RPG, 1.2 SPG, 0.5 BPG, 2.1 3PM, 2.4 TOV, 50/35/70, 70 GP

Jrue Holiday
The second major addition was Jrue Holiday, whose fantasy value took a significant hit in his first season with the Celtics. The veteran’s decline is attributable to Boston’s star power. As a result, Holiday’s stats dropped in several categories. Most notable was the plunge in his points and assists, while his threes, steals, and free throw percentage had more minor dips. Conversely, the guard’s blocks, rebounds, and field goal percentage slightly increased, and he turned over the ball less. His greatest strengths were his assists, blocks, and threes, while his most glaring weakness was turnovers. The 34-year-old still had multi-category value, but not to the same extent as previous years. Holiday ranked in the top 40 in category leagues in his last three seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks. In 2023-24, he just managed to stay inside the top 75, but this was one of the lowest fantasy seasons of his career.
- Stats: 12.5 PPG, 4.8 APG, 5.4 RPG, 0.9 SPG, 0.8 BPG, 2.0 3PM, 1.8 TOV, 48/43/83, 69 GP

Al Horford
Al Horford still carved out a role despite being pushed to the bench. His fantasy impact did drop considerably from the previous season, but he maintained top 100 value. The big man’s production peaked when he started, and he was thrust into this lineup 33 times due to team injuries. Still, Horford’s average minutes dipped due to his bench role, as did his points, threes, and assists. However, his shooting splits drastically increased, boosting his efficiency from the floor and at the line. His defensive stats remained relatively the same. The 38-year-old is not an elite shot-blocker, but he provided some blocks and the occasional steal. Overall, Horford’s best categories were shooting percentages, rebounds, blocks, and low turnovers. He offered some threes but was not a good source of points, assists, and steals.
- Stats: 8.6 PPG, 2.6 APG, 6.4 RPG, 0.6 SPG, 1.0 BPG, 1.7 3PM, 0.7 TOV, 51/42/87, 65 GP
