Broncos closer to picking starting quarterback with Bo Nix and Zach Wilson battling it out

Jarrett Stidham has nabbed the top spot in the Denver Broncos’ depth chart, overshadowing Zach Wilson and Bo Nix.

The NFL outfit turned heads on Tuesday when their unofficial depth chart for training camp was unveiled, showing Stidham as the likely starter. Wilson, bagged from the New York Jets in exchange for a late-round draft pick earlier this year, finds himself benched at second while Nix takes the third spot despite earning plaudits from head honcho Sean Payton.

How Zach Wilson's Life-Changing Decision Impacts Broncos QB Battle

Let’s remember, though, an unofficial depth chart doesn’t guarantee who’ll be taking to the field first against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1. The ex-Oregon star quarterback Nix has been slinging it impressively in practice sessions, showcasing sharp decision-making skills and solid ball control, even though he’s not free of slip-ups, per DenverSports.com reports.

Nix has bagged the chance to drill exclusively with the starters in the past two Broncos’ practices last Saturday and Monday. It was anticipated that Stidham would snag the first-team reps come Tuesday.

While Wilson is listed second on the depth chart above Nix, Payton’s practice rotation appears to indicate the former second-overall pick is third in the pecking order. This is because Stidham and Nix alternated first-team reps in the first week of camp.

Payton, however, swatted away any buzz over what this shuffle could imply. Facing the press on July 30, he remained tight-lipped about the ongoing tussle for the quarterback crown, stating: “No news to announce there. I know you’re looking for it.”

Nix was reportedly the only quarterback involved in move-the-ball drills and walkthroughs, hinting that the 12th overall pick could be set to secure the starting position. The 24-year-old holds the NCAA record for most games played by a quarterback, with three years at Auburn and two seasons at Oregon under his belt.
