CeeDee Lamb, Jerry Jones standoff could cause more problems for Cowboys

It’s safe to say that contract negotiations between the Dallas Cowboys and star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb haven’t gone as planned. Based on Thursday’s situation, Cowboys fans may have some cause for concern about the timeline for working out a deal.

Lamb, Jones standoff could cause more problems for Cowboys

While speaking with the media, Jones stated that doesn’t “have any urgency to get” a deal done with Lamb, as The Athletic’s Jon Machota revealed. But this was just the beginning of a snowball effect which led to numerous reactions and responses.

Lamb’s response immediately went viral, with the star wideout simply posting “lol” on X while quote-tweeting Jones’s comments. Then came Dak Prescott, who was blunt with his response, simply stating that he’s “got urgency for it to happen,” per Machota.

Jones officially sparked a bit of mini chaos at training camp on Thursday, but the multimillion-dollar question is whether it’ll even be relevant when all is said and done?

Unfortunately for the Cowboys, even if it doesn’t prove to be a long-term issue with Lamb, this may be the starting point of the concern about the futures of Prescott and even Micah Parsons.

Dallas staring at dangerous territory

Maybe the Cowboys and Lamb will agree to a new deal this week, making the entire situation seem like one big moot point. But even if they do, it doesn’t change the fact that Dallas would be wise to pony up two other high-dollar extensions very soon with Prescott and Parsons.

Lamb is the primary focus right now, but allowing Prescott to play out the season and have a shot at testing free agency would be playing with fire. For a franchise that went through years of mediocre quarterback play before Tony Romo and then Prescott, this fan base knows all too well what the other side of things can look like.

Whether or not Prescott can lead the Cowboys to the promised land will remain a great debate, but one thing that’s not up for debate is that he’s among the top half and likely the top 10 most talented signal-callers in the NFL.

Lamb is quickly becoming one of the NFL’s most talented wide receivers. Parsons? He’s in the conversation as one of the NFL’s most dominant defensive players.

As the old saying goes, “If you play with fire, you might get burnt.” Jones is juggling three balls on fire, and dropping even one of them could set the Cowboys back in a big way.
