Clippers’ attempt to savagely troll Mavericks hilariously backfires

Heading into last night’s game against the LA Clippers, the Dallas Mavericks were coming off a Game 4 loss at the American Airlines Center. Dallas trailed by as much as 31 points in this game, but they battled all the way back and only lost by five points.

This momentum from the second half of Monday’s game carried over into Wednesday night’s game, as the Mavs won 123-93 and got back on track. Luka Doncic put on a show in this game as he finished with 35 points while shooting above 50 percent from the field, and Derrick Jones Jr. also stepped up as he finished with 12 points and three blocks.

Jones Jr. has been stellar in this series, and the Mavs will have the chance to send the Clippers home packing on Friday in Game 6. While Dallas could end this series as soon as tomorrow, one company may have gotten ahead of itself when it comes to talking trash to the Mavs.

Clippers’ attempt to troll Mavericks with sign hilariously backfires

Yesterday morning before Game 5, an advertisement was spotted across from Crypto.com Arena that said “Dallas to Cancun,” inferring that the Mavs’ season would be over soon and that they’d need to be booking flights to go on vacation.

This ended up backfiring in favor of the Mavericks, as they destroyed the Clippers and made the company that made this look stupid. What would make this even better is if the Mavs close out the series on Friday and the Clippers are the ones who need to book a flight from Dallas to Cancun.

The Clippers said that they had no involvement with getting this advertisement by saying, “The billboard at L.A. Live is not owned or operated by the Clippers. We have the utmost respect for our opponents and in no way endorse this message,” according to ESPN.

The Clippers and Mavericks rivalry has been brewing all series long, and this advertisement going up on the day of Game 5 gave Doncic and the Mavs some bulletin board material going into a pivotal Game 5. Dallas doesn’t need any outside motivation to win in the playoffs, but it had to have felt good to beat the Clippers after seeing this confidence (from Skyscanner) outside the arena.

Doncic continues to battle an illness and knee injury, but Wednesday’s performance was a huge step in the right direction for him to get back to being his usual self.

For all the latest on Luka Doncic, Derrick Jones Jr., and the Dallas Mavericks throughout the 2024 NBA Playoffs, stay tuned.
