Connor Wong hits two home runs, while Rafael Devers adds a solo shot as the Boston Red Sox dominate the Cleveland Guardians 8-0

Connor Wong hit two home runs, Rafael Devers also hit one, and the Boston Red Sox won 8-0 against the Cleveland Guardians. Wong hit homers in the second and sixth innings and also got an RBI single in the ninth.

Devers, who had missed the last five games because of a knee injury, scored on a double in the first inning and then hit a home run in the fifth. The Red Sox got a total of 16 hits in the game.

Wong praised Devers, saying his presence in the lineup makes a big difference because he can hit the ball far anytime during the game. Wilyer Abreu, a rookie outfielder, also contributed with four hits and an RBI.

The Red Sox had three starting players out due to injuries, so their manager, Alex Cora, relied on the bullpen. Rookie pitcher Cooper Criswell pitched five scoreless innings before being replaced by Joely Rodríguez and Zack Kelly, who each pitched two innings to close out the game.

Despite the injuries, the Red Sox have been getting good pitching, which has helped them maintain a team ERA of 1.73, the lowest in the first 25 games since 1920. Cora expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, emphasizing their pitching and defense.
