Cowboys Forecasted To Cast Aside Dak Prescott In Favor Of 4 x Pro Bowl And Former MVP Candidate

Dak Prescott has been almost constantly backed by Dallas Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones, ever since talks started about his fist extension over half a decade ago.

Backed publicly, that is.

Dallas Cowboys Forecasted To Cast Aside Dak Prescott In Favor Of 4 x Pro Bowl And Former MVP Candidate

Actions Speak Louder Than Words For Dak Prescott’s Future

After restructuring his contract, yet again, earlier this offseason, Dak Prescott has reportedly yet to engage in contract talks with the Dallas Cowboys, and vice versa.

Jerry Jones has maintained his yearly praise of the Mississippi State alum, recently categorizing Prescott as one of the elite level quarterbacks who have yet to, but are fully able to win a Super Bowl.

Do The Dallas Cowboys Really Believe In Dak Prescott Long Term?

The Jones family will have undoubtedly been very frustrated with another early playoff exit, this time coming at the hands of the Jordan Love-led resurgent Green Bay Packers, who have seemingly found yet another franchise quarterback.

It would be quite the move for Dallas to not re-up Prescott after a borderline MVP caliber regular season in 2023, however, you never quite know what opportunities and scenarios open up in the National Football League: In less than a year, Russell Wilson went from Sean Payton’s revival project, to benchwarmer, and then subsequent cut-ee.

And if 2024 goes poorly for the Cowboys, especially after what has been a generally poorly received free agency period, who knows what kind of position “America’s Team” will be in vis-a-vis QB drafting in 2025.

Pro Bowler To Replace Dak Prescott As Cowboys’ Franchise Quarterback?

Christopher Kline, of FanSided, has suggested a trade proposal in which the Dallas Cowboys go after Derek Carr, currently of the New Orleans Saints.

“If Prescott bolts, this could be the Cowboys’ best chance to land a proven starter. Derek Carr has four Pro Bowl appearances on his resumé. He’s a high-volume gunner, unafraid of bold throws and capable of manufacturing explosive plays.”

Now, whilst Kline’s analysis is not wrong, and, of course, Carr did have his own MVP caliber year back in 2016, where he lead the (then) Oakland Raiders to a 13-3 record before injury ruled him out of the playoffs, where the Raiders eventually lost to the Houston Texans, replacing Prescott with someone as polarizing as Derek Carr would be a potential PR nightmare for the Cowboys.

Not to mention the fact that, realistically, outside of potentially saving on contract price, there are few, if any, areas where Carr can be seen as a bona fide upgrade on Dak. Most, including myself, would see this as a parallel move at best, with many believing that Prescott still has the superior upside and built in chemistry with the receivers, and respect of the team.

Still, it is certainly possible. I think, however, the more likely scenario would be a new recruit at QB through the draft in 2024 or 2025.
