According to Marc J. Spears of Andscape, Gafford disclosed that his residence in Alexandria, Virginia, was broken into and ransacked approximately a week before his trade.

The burglary left the home “in shambles,” with valuables including his wife’s jewelry and purses, as well as Gafford’s gaming equipment, stolen. Fortunately, neither Gafford nor his wife were present during the incident.

In response to the burglary, Gafford maintained a positive outlook, emphasizing the importance of their safety over material possessions. “Everything can be replaced as long as we have our lives and are in good spirits,” he remarked.

Despite the unsettling circumstances, Gafford has found solace in his transition to Dallas, where he has been thriving both on and off the court. Since joining the Mavericks, Gafford has showcased his prowess, averaging 11.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.9 blocks per game across 27 contests. His exceptional performance, coupled with a remarkable shooting percentage of 77.3%, underscores his impact on the team.

Playing alongside star guards Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving has undoubtedly bolstered Gafford’s offensive capabilities, as he benefits from their playmaking abilities and the attention they command from opposing defenses.

Furthermore, Gafford expressed his gratitude for being closer to his hometown in Arkansas, highlighting the significance of having his family and community present to witness his NBA journey firsthand.
