In 2024, the Denver Broncos hope to turn around their franchise’s direction. When the Broncos traded for Russell Wilson during the off-season of 2022, their only goal was to win the Super Bowl. Sadly, that didn’t happen.
Those results, coupled with an 8-9 record last season, forced the front office to make some major changes. For the 2024 season, those changes have provided some unexpected hope.
One of those bright spots got the attention of head coach Sean Payton.
HC Sean Payton Calls Out His Own Player For Big Plays During Practice
Journalist Josh Buckhalter highlighted what Sean Payton. had to say:
“The guy that jumped out was Josh Reynolds. I mean, shoot, he had three or four catches that were something else,” Payton told reporters on July 31. “He’s a tough player. He’s got range. You saw today there were a number of 50/50 balls that he ended up with. And we had a good clean, clear vision for him and I’m glad we have him.
“He’s long and he’s smart, and so there’s some versatility. I see him as an outside-in player. More outside than in. But his length … his catch radius is just bigger.”
This is Reynolds’ eighth NFL season – he is listed at 6-foot-3. Reynolds was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL draft. He has also been a member of the Detroit Lions and Tennessee Titans.
During his time with the Lions in 2023, he caught 40 passes for 608 yards and five touchdowns.
During free agency, Reynolds signed a deal worth $9 million for two years with the Broncos. It is both the most valuable contract of his career and the most lucrative in terms of annual salary.
