The Detroit Lions finally unveiled their new uniforms on Thursday night, and among them was a new, sharp black alternate jersey that came in tandem with either blue or black pants.

If you’re a fan of the new black uniform, you can send your thanks to Lions head coach Dan Campbell, who had asked the franchise to bring them back a few years ago. President Rod Wood said he agreed to do so, under one condition.
“So we’re in the draft room, literally months into his tenure and he wore the black when he was here and we’re in the draft room, he said, ‘Hey Rod, when can we get the black jerseys back?’” Wood revealed, per Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. “And I said, ‘I’ll make a deal. When you win the division, I’ll bring the black jerseys back.’ And so I went out on a limb and thankfully he delivered. That’s a true story.”
“He loved them cause when he was here he wore them and I think it was kind of the team’s favorite at the time,” Wood added.

Detroit last introduced black jerseys back in 2005, which was during one of the franchise’s dark ages with Matt Millen at the helm. Safe to say, the Lions are in much better hands now, and the new version of the black jerseys are an absolute home run and better than their predecessor.
