The Detroit Lions are reportedly adding another linebacker. The Lions announced a slew of roster moves in reaction to a few injuries suffered. Here’s a quick recap:
Signed OT Jamarco Jones
Signed LB Abraham Beauplan
Waived/injured OL Connor Galvin
Placed DL Nate Lynn on injured reserve
Beauplan is a second-year player after going undrafted last year. He was signed by the Minnesota Vikings, but suffered an injury in the preseason and was eventually waived with an injury designation. The Vikings signed him to a futures deal at the start of 2024, but released him just a couple weeks ago.
In college, Beauplan played three season at Marshall as a starter. Over that time, he masses 218 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, an interception and five forced fumbles.
At 6-foot-2, 235 pounds, Beauplan provides a little more competition in Detroit’s off-ball linebacker room and could be a candidate for Detroit’s SAM linebacker position. The Lions find themselves a little shorthanded at SAM after taking those responsibilities off of Mathieu Betts’ plate and after Nate Lynn suffered an injury in Thursday’s preseason game in an injury that Dan Campbell called season-ending.
Of course, Beauplan doesn’t have a ton of time to get acclimated and make a run for a spot on the 53-man roster. Detroit only has two preseason games left, and Week 1 of the regular season is now just four weeks away.
We detailed the Jones signing earlier on Sunday. You can find that story here.
