Both the Baseball Club and the Drillers took losses on Saturday while the Loons and Quakes were in the winners’s circle.

Player of the day

2023 Second Round selection Jake Gelof hit .226 with a .784 OPS in two stops in his first year in professional baseball. In 2024, Gelof is doing better hitting .311/.441/.511 in 12 games at Rancho Cucamonga.

On Saturday, Gelof went 4-for-9 with a double, scoring three runs and driving in three in the pair of games the Quakes played.

The 22-year old third-baseman was able to see his brother Zack during spring training. Zack plays for the Oakland Athletics.

Triple-A Oklahoma City

In a crisply played game, it took just two-hours and fifteen minutes for the Sacramento River Cats (Giants) to score just enough to beat the Oklahoma City Baseball Club 3-1 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Oklahoma City starting pitcher Elieser Hernández pitched five innings and gave up three runs and four hits. Hernández also struck out six. Drew Pomeranz and Ricky Vanasco each pitched scoreless innings for the Baseball Club.

Kody Hoese continued his strong start to this season with two hits.

Double-A Tulsa

The Drillers fell behind after the first inning and never were able to catch as the Wichita Wind Surge (Twins) beat Tulsa 7-3 at Riverfront Stadium. Right-handed pitcher Kendall Williams has not started well this season for the Drillers.

On Saturday, Williams gave up seven hits and three runs in three innings pitched. Williams also walked three and only struck out two. So far in 2024, Williams has pitched 10⅓ innings and allowed 20 hits and 12 runs. Williams also has walked 10 with six strikeouts.

High-A Great Lakes

A five-run sixth inning was the key to the Loons 9-8 win over the West Michigan Whitecaps (Tigers). The Loons sent ten players up in that inning with seven of the first eight getting on base.

Yunior Garcia hit his first home run this season for Great Lakes and also scored three runs. Nick Biddison also had two hits.

Six pitchers took the mound for the Loons and Franklin De La Paz pitched two scoreless innings to get the win.

Low-A Rancho Cucamonga

A local power outage postponed Friday night’s game between the Inland Empire 66ers (Angels) and the Quakes. They finally got the game started on Saturday afternoon and the Quakes prevailed 9-6 over the 66ers.

The top three in the Quakes lineup each had multiple-hit games. Josue De Paula and Zyhir Hope had two hits each and Jake Gelof collected three singles. Hope also walked three times.

Jorge Gonzalez pitched two scoreless innings and got the win. Noah Ruen had his second scoreless outing in as many tries and recorded the save for the Quakes.

In the regularly scheduled game, the Quakes scored six runs in their first three times at bat and that was more than enough to beat the 66ers 6-2 on Saturday night.

Patrick Copen pitched three innings and allowed one run and three hits in relief. Copen would get his first win of the season.

Jeral Perez hit two solo home runs in his third multi-hit game this week against Inland Empire. Joe Vetrano also had two hits and scored twice in this game.
