Draymond Green highlights the Team USA pressure heading into the medal round. On his podcast, he mentioned again the fact that Jayson Tatum didn’t play against Serbia. This was a storyline at the start of Team USA group play in the Olympics. Twitter was going nuts and Celtics fans went nuts. Steve Kerr openly said that “he was an idiot” for not playing Tatum in the game. NBC Sports in this article here goes into greater detail.
Draymond though, highlights the pressure put on the team. It’s almost like, “They can’t win, unless they win.” If they win by 5, it’s a win for the opponent. If they win by 30, it was expected. If they lose, don’t come home.
Embiid didn’t play against South Sudan
In the same article, it was reported that Tyrese Haliburton didn’t play against Serbia. Joel Embiid also didn’t play against South Sudan. Kerr stated “we went with the combinations that made sense.” Look below at Brian Windhorst’s report via ESPN on Youtube. There are going to be times that big stars don’t play based on the game minutes.
Team USA basketball vs. Pressure to win
Fans could’nt find a proper name for the current crop of Team USA players. The only team as per fans that could compete against them isn’t even in the tournament. Look at this article here from NBC comparing the 1992 Dream team against the 2024 team. Draymond Green is outspoken on the subject. He says in this article here on Yahoo that the 2024 team would win 5 out of 7 games.
The point is that since the United States invented basketball, they MUST win the gold medal in every World Championship, Olympics and every international competition. Period. Full Stop. Look at this article here on CBC.ca about the Canadian Men’s Hockey team remembering their 2010 victory over the U.S. Canada invented the sport of hockey and the players feel the immense pressure. Look at my article here on our site which has Germany as the biggest threat to beat the US.
Team USA should have fun. They will win the Gold. They can’t play the ’92 Dream Team on the court (or the ’96 team, the ’08 team, etc.)
