Eаgleѕ Fіgһtіng Wіtһ Steelerѕ Over Potentіаl Rookіe Sіgnіng After Drаft

The Philadelphia Eagles were busy during NFL draft weekend, taking nine players over the three-day events that they hope will make an impact this season or down the road.

After the draft wrapped up, the Eagles were busy adding undrafted free agents to the 90-man roster and inviting players to rookie mini-camp, which begins next month.

One player the Eagles invited to rookie minicamp, has also sparked some interest with the other team in the Keystone state (Pittsburgh Steelers).

Justin Melo of The DraftNetwork reported Sunday that Ferris State cornerback Shon Stephens accepted a rookie minicamp invite with the Eagles. However, Melo adds that Stephens has also accepted a second rookie minicamp invite from the Pittsburgh Steelers.

As Melo points out, there’s a chance that the Eagles could sign Stephens after their minicamp, which means he won’t make it to Pittsburgh’s minicamp. The former Ferris State standout is also the nephew of Steelers linebacker Joey Porter. Stephens’ cousin Joey Porter Jr. also plays for the Steelers.

The 5-foot-8 cornerback had a tremendous year at Ferris State as he was named the 2023 GLIAC Defensive Back of the Year and first-team All-GLIAC. Stephens was also named 2023 second-team Division II All-American and participated in the College Gridiron Showcase.

In his lone season at Ferris State, Stephens had 25 total tackles, eight interceptions, four pass breakups, and 1.5 tackles for loss. At his size, the D2 standout is a slot cornerback at the next level. Stephens has good ball skills and could be used on special teams as a kickoff returner.

The Eagles already have an abundance of cornerbacks on their roster, but if Stephens can do well at rookie minicamp, he might get across the state.
