Eagles news: One final take on Jalen Hurts’ record, an MVP’s status report

Hey, what else are we going to do at training camp? Of course we’re going to keep up with QB stats! Why the heck wouldn’t we keep up with training camp passing stats? Shout out to Eliot Shorr-Parks. You’re the G.O.A.T. and a visionary. To those of you who think this is no big deal, shame on you! Think about the vibes at a summer practice for a second.

Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles

Two-a-day workouts are gone, and they’re never coming back. The dress code for the earlier practice sessions of training camp includes athletic shorts. You see where this is headed, right?

The pads aren’t worn until later. Tackling is discouraged. We’re told coaches learn more by hosting joint sessions, and Philly’s won’t occur until next week when they prepare for Week 2’s preseason game versus the Pats.

You’re damn right we care about Jalen’s stat summertime stat line.

Eagles news: Jalen Hurts sets an unofficial training camp record.
Those of you who are die-hards are probably well aware of this. 94 WIP-FM’s Eliot Shorr-Parks had dedicated himself to something we once never paid attention to, the collection of QB stats at every Philadelphia Eagles training camp.

In 2023, Philly’s franchise signal-caller, Jalen Hurts, tossed seven TDs and three interceptions through ten practices. This time around, he’s been on fire.

He looks healthier than he has been in a while. We love that, but he has also been phenomenal in his placement of the football.

Per ESP, QB1 has tossed 17 TDs through ten practice sessions so far this summer. He has yet to throw a pick. Most importantly, he has set a record.

Hurts’ 158 attempts without an INT is an Eagles training camp record. Again, we haven’t tallied these stats for every long, but we’re still pumped. ESP also notes that this is “just another indication that Hurts seems set to have a season much closer to 2022 than 2023”. Take a look.

Training camp can be a grind. It’s sometimes hard to ascertain what we should learn from each session, but it’s stuff like this that makes things fun. ESP is okay in our book. Frankly, we hate he came up with the idea and not us.

More Eagles news: Lamar Jackson to sit out of Week 1 preseason game
With that, we turn our attention to the first game of the preseason. The first opponent is the same one we saw during the first exhibition game last summer.

Philly is scheduled to tackle the Baltimore Ravens at 7:30 pm EST on Friday at M&T Bank Stadium. The Ravens, always willing to do whatever it takes to win a preseason game (including bringing that starters back off the bench), will battle in this one without the reigning NFL MVP.

John Harbaugh told the Baltimore media that Lamar will sit this one out. That shouldn’t surprise anyone as there have been concerns about the weather and Lamar hasn’t played during the preseason in either of the past two years.

That being said, expect to see a lot of Josh Johnson, Devin Leary, and Emory Jones on Friday.
