Eagles rookie leaves practice following injury during live tackling session

This is a real but unfortunate part of football that we don’t enjoy. One of the Eagles’ undrafted rookies leaves the field with an unfortunate injury.

The Philadelphia Eagles’ sixth training camp practice was a public affair they hosted at Lincoln Financial Field. Fun, right? However, as much as we love what we do, there are stories we don’t enjoy writing. The following certainly qualifies as one of those.

First, the good news… Nearly 50,000 fans showed up. We wouldn’t expect less. These are the best fans in the world. Unfortunately, all the news coming out of this one isn’t good news.

UDFA McCallan Castles leaves the Eagles’ public practice after sustaining an injury.

It’s a beautiful game with an ugly side. August 1st reminded us of that. Eagles fans were in midseason form, chanting ‘Dallas Sucks’ at one point, but sadly, there is bad news.

During a rare appearance by some of the guys sitting at the lower end of the depth chart, a live tackling session began. Undrafted rookie McCallan Castles took the field, but he exited almost as quickly.

While scrimmaging with the third-team offense, he was banged up and wound up limping off the field before being evaluated by trainers. The cause appears to be an injury to his left leg.

Castles was added as one of eight undrafted rookies Philly added after the most recent NFL Draft. He’s a tight end who spent the 2023 season with the Tennessee Volunteers after stints at Cal (2018-2019) and UC Davis (2020-2022). Honestly, he was one of the guys we hoped could impress and sneak into the favor of his coaches.

He stands at six-foot-five and tips the scales at 233 pounds. He snagged 22 receptions for 283 yards and five TDs this past NCAA season.

He’s also a third-down and red zone threat that could have been a matchup nightmare. Fingers are crossed this way that his injury isn’t anything serious.
