While most NFL stars had a quiet offseason to prepare for the 2024-25 campaign, Kansas City Chiefs star Harrison Butker was embroiled in a couple of controversies and issues that made him more visible to the public. In response, the kicker dropped one big promise for the upcoming season for the Patrick Mahomes-led team.

Butker recently delivered a commencement speech at Benedictine College that stirred controversy due to its perceived anti-gay and sexist remarks. Despite facing backlash, Butker remains steadfast in his convictions, asserting that he stands by his statements. Emphasizing his commitment to his faith and personal beliefs, he views the offseason as a time to express his identity as a faithful Catholic.

Butker’s candid expression of his views has sparked conversations within the Chiefs’ locker room, leading to a deeper understanding among teammates with diverse perspectives. While some may disagree with his opinions, Butker’s integrity and character have been acknowledged by fellow players like Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, who have publicly expressed respect for him despite differing viewpoints.

Having secured a contract extension that solidifies his status as the NFL’s highest-paid kicker, Butker’s longevity with the Chiefs, spanning seven years, reflects his significance within the team.

While training camp is happening, Butker sent out a promise for the Chiefs before the upcoming season starts. In an article written by Adam Teicher for ESPN, the kicker explained what the franchise can expect from him.

“And then obviously when it gets to the season, I try to focus as much as I can on football and not being a distraction for the Chiefs,” Teicher wrote.

Just recently, the Chiefs have secured Butker for an extended period with a lucrative four-year, $25.6 million deal, making him the highest-paid kicker in the NFL. The agreement includes $17.8 million in guaranteed money.

Since joining the Chiefs in 2017, Butker has been instrumental in their successes, notably contributing to their recent Super Bowl victories. The 29-year-old’s impressive accuracy and performance have solidified his position as a key player for the Chiefs, as long as he can keep his promise for the entirety of next season.
