It makes sense if you think about it. An NFL team with five Georgia Bulldogs on its roster has to have a bone thrown its way by Commissioner Rodger Goodell at some point. Favor has frequently smiled on this proud Philadelphia Eagles franchise since the start of the new league year. Hopefully, that happens again as Phase One of the offseason begins on Monday.
Isaiah Rodgers didn’t play his college ball at UGA. He’s a UMass guy, so the Dawg reference doesn’t apply. Even still, he’d be the happiest Bird on Philly’s preseason roster if Goodell approves his reinstatement. Plus, it would be nice if he could reacclimate himself to a game that has seen many changes since the last time he was active and playing.
Rodgers hasn’t played football since December 26th, 2022. He sat out of the Indianapolis Colts final pair of regular season games that season and was suspended for the duration of the 2023 NFL campaign after it was learned that he bet on games in 2022.
That didn’t stop Philly from signing him on August 28th, 2023. He has been sitting on the Reserve/Suspended by Commissioner list ever since. Questions have been asked about why the expected reinstatement has been taking so long, but often, whenever the topic of conversation turns to Philly’s secondary, he gets mentioned.
He also turned heads on social media when clips and vids began circulating of him working out in Eagles gear and a white helmet, but another blip coursed through the radar recently as he decided to make his impression felt.
With that, the focus shifts back to Rodger Goodell. As of now, Rodgers’ future rests in his hands.
A sixth-round draftee in 2020, he stands at five-foot-ten and tips the scales at 170 pounds. His three seasons in Indy produced ten starts during 45 in-game appearances.
90 tackles, three interceptions, three pass breakups, and a forced fumble have been the result of his efforts. He also provides value on special teams.
He has stacked 1,645 yards and a TD on 61 kick returns. The Birds could certainly use that type of production. We’ll see what happens. Again, he has to be reinstated first, but if he is, he could provide value for this Eagles team.
