From a certain angle, whether it was easily seen or not, what the Lions did or didn’t do in this year’s draft was going to say something about their true faith that Jameson Williams will put it all together in his third season. If a wide receiver was selected, particularly with an early pick, it would of course be bad news for the 2022 first-round pick.

The Lions did not draft a wide receiver, at all, and the two undrafted rookies they signed are not a threat to Williams’ role in the offense. He’d then be easy to put on a list of post-draft fantasy football winners, even if he’s likely fairly well down the pecking order for targets/touches. Good luck finding him on any of those lists.

However, Sam Wallace of Fantasy Life has Williams on his list of trade targets in dynasty after the draft.

“It’s easy to forget that Jameson Williams was selected by the Lions with the 12th overall pick in 2022. He finished his collegiate career at Alabama in 2021 with an absurd line of 79 / 1,572 / 15 (19.9 yards per reception).”

“He could profile as the ideal post-hype sleeper heading into 2024. The Lions surprised everyone (except themselves) by claiming their first division title in 30 years. The success of Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Sam LaPorta, and Jahmyr Gibbs means very few are looking at Williams.”

Wallace outlined how dynasty leaguers can take advantage of Williams being so overlooked right now, with mention of being two-plus years further removed from his torn ACL by the time the season starts. It’s also fair to say, as Wallace noted, that Williams is the most talented wide receiver on the Lions’ roster this side of Amon-Ra St. Brown.

Wallace wrapped up the case for Williams with where he ranks among wide receivers in dynasty right now.

“Williams is currently the dynasty WR 50. If I can land someone with his pedigree, profile, talent, and draft capital that cheap, I’ll take that every single time. The Lions are building something special in Detroit and dynasty managers should be quick to stash Williams before he reminds everyone what he’s capable of.”

An update from Keep, Trade, Cut, the source Wallace used, has Williams at WR52 in dynasty as of Thursday afternoon. That’s a mid-WR5 in a 12-team league.

The focus of Wallace’s piece was on dynasty, with the year-round nature of it. But Williams also sits at WR46 in Fantasy Pros general consensus rankings right now, so he is also shaping up as a worthwhile flier in re-draft leagues this year.
