Brian Baldinger breaks down Jaylen Wright’s performance against the Falcons.
MIAMI GARDENS – The Miami Dolphins defeated the Atlanta Falcons 20-13 Friday night with the help of the promising debut of running back Jaylen Wright. Wright is the Dolphins fourth-round pick of the 2024 draft and is what the front office hoped he’d be after they traded up into the fourth round to select him.
The Dolphins have a model of who they’re looking for in the backfield. When you look at Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane, the words speed and elusive come to the surface, and Jaylen Wright’s cut from that same cloth.
Wright did the most with his opportunities, going for fifty-five yards off of ten carries and one touchdown. He showed high-level speed and vision, was precise with his cutbacks, and was hard to take down.
Although he may not get many opportunities during the season in a crowded backfield, he impressed the coaching staff, the fans, and a fan favorite X account, Brain Baldinger. Baldinger, an NFL Network and Fox Sports contributor breaks down some of his favorite performances of the week on X called Baldy’s Breakdowns and just dropped one on Wright.

A few compliments Baldinger points out about Wright is that he’s “smooth” when he’s finding running lanes, cutting back through blocks, and the defense. He also points out Wight’s “elite speed” on the play where Wright had to reverse field to make something out of nothing.
Watching that play reminded me of how LeSean McCoy used to look when he played on snow compared to everyone else on the field. Guys were slipping and sliding while McCoy moved as if he was playing on a perfect surface, and that’s how Wright looked on that play.

Wright looks to be another clone made in the Miami Dolphins running back factory, and if his number gets called during the season, I don’t expect any drop-off coming from Mostert or Achane to him. He’s special.
The Dolphins have found themselves another hidden gem late in the draft.
