This week on “The Bachelorette,” Bachelor Nation fans saw Jenn Tran’s ex Matthew show up all the way in New Zealand and ask for another chance at love with her.
Now, Jenn stopped by the “Bachelor Happy Hour” podcast and got candid with co-hosts Serena Pitt and Joe Amabile about her relationship with Matthew and where they were at before the show.
Jenn said, “We had dated when I lived in Boston about three years ago. We met on Hinge and we dated for about three months-ish exclusively. It was just me and him and we were boyfriend and girlfriend. Then things didn’t really work out; we were really young and that classic situation. Then a few months had passed and we kind of got together again for a little bit and I decided that this wasn’t it.”
But that wasn’t the end for Jenn and Matthew. She shared that they were still in touch after their second split.
The Bachelorette explained, “Then a few more months had passed after that second reincarnation, and at that point we were just friends and I was so happy with that. He is someone who is such a good person and I came to terms with the fact that we are such different people and we are at different places in our lives. We had stayed in touch as friends for a couple of years.”
The two remained friends and actually reconnected in a more platonic way after Jenn was on Joey’s season of “The Bachelor.”
Jenn shared that they would catch up on the phone every now and then, but their relationship wasn’t romantic at that time.
She went on saying, “I have known him for so long and we know each other’s families, so we have this history and I found comfort in that” and added that “I was really surprised when he came and basically confessed his love.”
Jenn opens up more about her relationship with Matthew on the full episode of “Bachelor Happy Hour” below.
And tune in to “The Bachelorette” next week to see if Jenn decides to keep Matthew around to join the rest of her season.
