After going undrafted, Johnson agreed to terms with the Rams prior to rookie minicamp in May. He was released to create a spot for an offensive lineman.

Johnson was a five-year contributor for Louisiana Lafayette, playing 59 career games. The consistent pass-catcher made at least one reception in all of his last 26 collegiate appearances. He joins the Jets’ tight ends room one day after reserve tight end Kenny Yeboah saw time at fullback.

Ciarlo logged four special teams snaps against the Commanders before being forced out of his NFL preseason debut at MetLife Stadium. The local product suffered a knee injury on a third-quarter punt by the Jets and was subsequently ruled out for the remainder of the contest.

Ciarlo, who hails from Bergen County, NJ, competed collegiately for Army. He had a partially-guaranteed contract with New York.

The Jets return to practice on Monday morning in Florham Park ahead of their August 17 road date with the Carolina Panthers.
