Kevin Durant References LeBron James’ Miami Heat Speech With His Olympic Gold Medals

Kevin Durant had a little bit of fun at LeBron James’ expense recently. As posted by his stylist Taron Barnes on Instagram, he indicated how many Olympic gold medals he won. In the background, another person started quoting LeBron James’ speech from his first Miami Heat press conference, as KD counted on his fingers the medals he had.

“Not one, not two, not three, but four.”

The speech came during the introductory press conference of the Miami Heat in 2010. That summer, LeBron James and Chris Bosh signed with the franchise to team up with Dwyane Wade to form the Big Three. When asked about how many championships the trio would bring to the Heat, James gave his now-infamous response.

“Not one, not two, not three, not four, not five, not six, not seven. Hey, and when I say that, I really believe it.”

Well, LeBron was only partially right. While he didn’t just win one championship with the Heat, he only won two championships with the franchise in 2012 and 2013. James would find more championship success in his career after leaving the Heat, winning championships with the Cavaliers and the Lakers.

As for Durant, he has known nothing but success at the highest level when it comes to the Olympics. Since Durant first joined Team USA in 2012, he has lost only one game at the Olympics, coming in a group stage loss to France in 2021. And at every Olympics he has participated in, he has won the gold medal with Team USA.

Kevin Durant: Team USA Olympics GOAT?

As mentioned above, Kevin Durant and Team USA won the gold medal at the 2024 Olympics. This marks Durant’s fourth Olympic gold medal, making him the most successful male Team USA Player in Olympic history, with four gold medals. He is trailed only by LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony, who have three gold medals and one bronze.

Durant was absolutely sensational and rightfully thrilled that the team won the game. But he also took time to send some shots at Dennis Schroder, after Schroder called European basketball more about high IQ than entertainment, something that didn’t sit right with Durant.

This was far from the only social media sparring that Durant was doing during the Olympics. He called out American Nuggets fans who were supporting Serbia because of Nikola Jokic. And he didn’t even let his sleep get in the way of dishing out comebacks to fans, cooking Twitter users who were trying to slander him.

Durant had a great tournament overall, averaging 13.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.0 steals. He made a massive shot for Team USA against Serbia, a shot that Carmelo Anthony helped set up the play for from the sidelines. Durant came through big for Team USA on several occasions during this tournament.
